ARE YOU PROUD TO SERVE IT? is a mixed-media dual exhibition from best friends, life partners, creative collaborators, and roommates, Alexia Kane + Sarah Ryan. The show explores self-discovery between the artists and their relationship to making. This collection acknowledges the difficulty of being consumed by the idea of the end product. Instead, the artists chose to invest in the process and create something they are proud to serve.
This body of work also celebrates a culmination of materials that the pair have quietly been accumulating over the course of their relationship. A slightly damaged canvas has been covered in impressions from rubber stamps. Twenty pages of lines written in a notebook from college are ripped out and sewn together like a quilt. An ode to two reliable vehicles. A broken mirror asks if it still looks good. Does it?
